Days before Def Leppard were forced to postpone its U.S. tour due to issues with singer Joe Elliott’s voice, BlastEcho texted a bit with guitarist Phil Collen. It was just after the band’s Hysteria on the High Seas cruise docked in Miami, a work-vacation he and, likely many of the passengers, would likely soon forget.

On it, Elliott’s rusty pipes forced him out of action and, worse, Jimmy Bain, bassist for the Dio offshoot Last in Line (another band performing on the cruise), died shortly after the cruise embarked. (“Other than that Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?”)

Still, Collen was good enough answer the call, well, text, for BlastEcho‘s inaugural Text for Echo. Caution: Just like normal text conversations, it’ll be sloppy.
