Is Journey’s Jonathan Cain Able to Conquer Rockers’ Block?

The legendary keyboardist takes a journey through time to remember songs from Bad English, The Babys and, of course, Journey

Some music artists have released literally hundreds of songs over the years, to say nothing of the ones deemed too garbage-y to release. BlastEcho wondered if those involved in recording so many songs could remember them all. Enter Rockers’ Block.

For each Rockers’ Block contestant, we play five random songs from their catalog each song from the beginning (we did a bonus track, too, this time around!), to see how long it takes for them to guess (well, maybe guess isn’t the right word) the correct song. Then once they do (hopefully), they talk a bit about the song.

Journey was already established arena-rock act when Jonathan Cain joined the band in time for the band’s biggest-ever album, 1981’s Escape. If you’re good at math, you’ll realize that this year marks the 35th anniversary of that album, which features timeless classics like “Don’t Stop Believin'”, “Open Arms” and “Who’s Crying Now.”

Now we weren’t insane enough to pick any songs from Escape for this edition of Rockers’ Block, though we did select three other deep cuts from the Journey catalog, along with stuff from his stints in The Babys, Bad English and his solo catalog.

Any way you want it? Sure you do. Let’s play!

P.S. The full songs are below, if you think you can do better than Cain did…

Jonathan wrote a great song for 80’s glam rockers Black ‘n Blue called “I’ll Be There For You.” Dude knows how to write a chorus!!!
