Perhaps no other music artist–and certainly no solo one–is more synonymous with power-pop than Matthew Sweet. The 51-year-old singer/songwriter has been crafting infectious, sun-drenched pop confections for more than three decades (!); in fact, his debut, Inside, celebrates its 30th anniversary this year.
BlastEcho got a rare opportunity to politely interrupt him while hard at work on his follow up to 2011’s Modern Art (tentatively titled Tomorrow Forever), which is due out this summer. Amid the conversation, Sweet had a bit of an accident, which helps account for why this Text for Echo stretched over two weeks. Check the transcript for details.
Sweet not only provides a sneak peek at the new album (and artwork!), but he gives his thoughts on why it seems most artists do their best work early in their careers, answers where that certain someone gets love and, of course, Donald Trump. Caution: Just like normal text conversations, it’ll be sloppy.

BlastEcho is the only music website on the planet (warning: hyperbole) that’s all original content. In other words, it’s new, not what you already knew. Here you’ll find the latest on your favorite classic rock, alternative and pop artists, as well as those you may have forgotten (or would rather forget). We’ll post it as fast as our shoestring staff can (is that a tiny violin we hear?)
There will be new music, too, for you to discover and, hopefully, some entertaining, ground-breaking features. Did we miss anything? Oh, yeah, thanks for stopping by. We’re very appreciative!
