The Wait Is Over for a Nu Shooz Rockers’ Block

The songwriter for the 80s tandem tests his knowledge of his mostly decades' old output

Some music artists have released literally hundreds of songs over the years, to say nothing of the ones deemed too garbage-y to release. BlastEcho wondered if those involved in recording so many songs could remember them all. Enter Rockers’ Block.

For each Rockers’ Block contestant, we play five random songs from their catalog each song from the beginning to see how long it takes for them to guess (well, maybe guess isn’t the right word) the correct song. Then once they do (hopefully), they talk a bit about the song.

A couple years ago we sat down with John Smith, the songwriter for the husband-and-wife ’80s electro dance-pop duo Nu Shooz (Valerie Day is the singer and Smith’s better half). You probably remember them for the smash hit “I Can’t Wait,” which peaked at #3 on the Billboard Top 100 in 1986. Anyway, the reason why we didn’t post this Rockers’ Block when it was originally shot almost exactly two years ago was, well, there really is none. Laziness? That works.

In fact, we plan to clean out our closest this summer, because there are tons more of these Rockers’ Blocks just gathering dust. We know you’ve been waiting on pins and needles.

Now, without further ado, here’s Nu Shooz!

P.S. The full songs are below, if you think you can do better than Smith did…
